I think I was fairly clear on why I despise WalMart. They do horrible things to a community. It goes much further than your shirt or your kitchen, WalMart strikes at the heart of the community. It destroys local businesses, and creates menial labor jobs in their place. It supplants any local flavor by doing this, instead bringing in truckloads of generic goods. This is true for many of the chain and 'big box' stores, Target, K-Mart, Home Depot. One major difference is their method of competition, which is not just immoral but illegal (selling below retail to drive out competitors has been documented), and their labor practices, which are oppresive and prejudiced. It's cheap. Yeah, it's soulless, but do you really want soul with your kitchen appliances? It makes things more expensive.
